Praises all of Valley’s stars

Editor, Index-Tribune:

I want to thank Nicholas Greben for his letter to the editor in last week’s paper. In his letter, Nicholas honored two volunteers, Sue Holman and Susan Weeks, for their dedicated and long-standing work with Meals on Wheels in Sonoma Valley. From his description, it sounds as if these two women are great examples of the culture of volunteerism that exists in our community. They do hard and important work to make this community better for no pay and without any expectation of recognition.

Sonoma Valley Fund is an affiliate of Community Foundation Sonoma County, and in that capacity we partner with 22 nonprofit organizations in the Valley to grow philanthropy and develop funding to invest in our community. During our annual event in September we recognize volunteers who work with these 22 nonprofit partners. The volunteers honored this year are an amazing group of people.

They contribute their time and talents because they love their community. But, as Nicholas points out, there are many more “stars” in the Valley that did not get recognized at this event, simply because they work with other organizations!

We would be a much poorer community without ALL of these generous and, yes, sometimes heroic people. Thank you to every one of them!

Joshua Rymer

President,

Sonoma Valley Fund
