'Pelican Dreams' premieres Saturday

The Sebastiani Theatre Foundation and the Sonoma Birding Society host a special screening of the new film “Pelican Dreams” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Sebastiani Theatre.

This special event features the premiere screening of this documentary film along with a question-and-answer session with the writer/director/film makers Judy Irving and Mark Bittner. “Pelican Dreams”, is the culmination of a six-year journey, exploring the implications of an urban world view and how it affects not only pelicans, but nature in total.

“Pelican Dreams” will premier in hundreds of theatres, across America this fall.

Irving is a Sundance and Emmy Award-Winning filmmaker known for “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill” (2003), which will also screen at the Sebastiani Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 1 and 2, at 3 p.m.

“Pelican Dreams” is the story initiated one August afternoon, when a confused young brown pelican landed on the roadway of the Golden Gate Bridge, causing a spectacular traffic jam and providing the beginning of a narrative arc for this film. Tired, hungry, and disoriented, GiGi” (for “Golden Gate”) was transported in a police car to a nearby seabird rescue center.

This family friendly documentary is in memory of Jay Holcomb of the International Bird Rescue, who played a major role in the creation of International Bird Rescue and this film.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors 62 and up, and children 12 and under, and are available at the Sebastiani Theatre, 476 First St. E., in Sonoma or by calling 996-9756.
