Pauline Kathryn Griffith

Pauline Kathryn Griffith, 99, passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, 2014, in Sonoma. Pauline was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Emery, South Dakota, to John and Mary Driscoll. Pauline was a veteran of World War II who landed at Normandy and was in the Army Nurse Corps working as a captain in the 14th Field Hospital in Belgium, France and Germany. She was the nursing director in Hot Springs, South Dakota, hospital for years.  Pauline was a resident of Sonoma County since 1984 and worked at the Sonoma Specialty Clinic for three years.

She enjoyed playing violin and piano. Her artistic sensibility included painting and sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress. Pauline was a devoted and active member of St. Francis Solano Church; her religious faith was the centerpiece and focal point of her life.

Pauline is predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Driscoll, and her siblings, Patrick, Daniel, Jack, Robert and Lorraine “Sister Denise, OSF” Driscoll.

She is the devoted mother of John J. Griffith, of Petaluma; Kathryn L. (and husband, Stephen) Kardum, of Petaluma; and Mary (and husband, Kevin) McGill, of Foster City; loving grandmother of Brien McMahon, Nicholas Kardum, Danielle Kardum; Cristin (and husband, Matthew) Bennett and K.C. McGill; adored great grandmother of: Cole Evan and Lily Rose McMahon; loving sister of Dorothy Henry, of Sonoma. Pauline is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice By The Bay and Golden Livingcenter – London House for their exceptional care and attention to Pauline in the final months of her life.

Friends are invited to attend a vigil service, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Duggan’s Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at St. Francis Solano Church, 300 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476. Private interment will take place at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, at a later date. Memorial contributions in Pauline’s honor may be made to one of the following charities: Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 4900, Santa Rosa, CA 95401; Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301; or to Hospice By The Bay, 190 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476.
