Patt’s Copy stands alone atop men’s Jack Benny standings

After the holiday season, the action recently resumed in the Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League, and defending playoff champion Patt’s Copy World broke a three-way tie atop the 2013-14 league standings and now sits alone in first place with a 5-1 record.

Dropping into a second-place tie with 4-2 marks each are La Salette and R&B Custom Home Builders, followed by Murphy’s Irish Pub’s 3-3, defending regular-season champion Heffernan Insurance Brokers at 2-4, and VOM Fire’s 0-6.

In Sunday’s Jack Benny games at the Altimira Middle School gym, front-running Patt’s Copy World managed to avert an upset by barely nipping last-place VOM Fire 56-55, led by Lenny Clayburg and Tim Lilly’s 15 points with three treys each, Robert Romano’s nine points on three treys, Dave Studdert and Mark Fidler’s five apiece, Jeremy Lawson’s three, and Scott Summers and Dan Flohr’s two each. VOM was paced by Pat Dudy’s game-high 16 points with three treys, Edwin Hidalgo’s 15 with three treys, Tyler Nethaway’s 13, Gary Johnson’s seven, and Matt Ingersoll and Joe Kirkwood’s two apiece.

Murphy’s Irish Pub topped R&B Custom Home Builders 55-44, led by Jeff Kellogg’s game-high 27 points, Beni Comma’s 11, Dan Sooter’s eight, Jamie Svanda’s five, Rich Tunheim’s three and Eric Jorgensen’s one. Pacing R&B were Ron Hall’s 17 points, Al Martinson’s nine, Craig Brown and Danny Dwyer’s six apiece, and Ron Luddy and Chris Schnabel’s four each.

La Salette upended Heffernan Insurance Brokers 55-40, led by Don Fowler’s 12 points, Aaron Locks and Kenton Lewis’ 10 each, Aaron Smith and Kim Batchelder’s nine apiece, Marc Traverso and Rick Cantor’s two each, and Mike Glasbrenner’s one. The Brokers were paced by Devin Ajax’s game-high 14 points, Joe Neely’s 13 with three treys, Brian Stephenson’s five, and Steve Matuszak and Pete Ahern’s four apiece.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, Patt’s Copy World downed La Salette 68-58, led by Joe Geist’s game-high 27 points with five treys, Lilly’s 26 with four treys, Fidler’s six, Studdert’s five, Flohr’s three and Summers’ one. Pacing La Salette were Mike Kellison’s 16 points with three treys, Smith’s 13, Fowler and Batchelder’s eight apiece, Locks and Lewis’ three each, and Cantor’s one.

Murphy’s Irish Pub defeated VOM Fire 71-48, led by Svanda’s game-high 24 points with six treys, Kellogg’s 20 with four treys, Comma’s 12, Jorgensen’s six, Steve Mellinger’s five and Tunheim’s four. VOM was paced by Jason Campbell’s 15 points on five treys, Chris Rossi’s 15 with three treys, Hidalgo’s nine, Johnson’s seven and AJ Armanini’s two.

R&B Custom Home Builders edged Heffernan Insurance Brokers 66-61, led by Martinson’s game-high 26 points with six treys, Chris Nufo’s 15 with three treys, Schnabel’s 10, Dwyer’s six, Hall’s four and Luddy’s three. Pacing  Heffernan were Cody Sanderlin’s 19 points, Ajax’s 16, Clem Moore’s 10, Neely’s nine, Stephenson’s three, and Ahern and Matuszak’s two each.
