Food trucks better beef up staff
EDITOR: With regard to proposed changes to the farmers market (“Fresh Crop of ‘Conditions’ Required for Tuesday Farmers Market,” Jan. 20), and with all due respect, how do (City Councilmembers) Amy Harrington and Gary Edwards represent the entire population of the Valley? Why is Harrington’s need to “come to a quick decision” in our best interest? Shouldn’t the decision reflect the market’s attendees? I understand our local industry is tourism and agricultural based. However, the farmers market is one of the ONLY events in our hometown that my family (yes, non-wine drinking children do live here) can afford to attend. We get our weekly produce at the market; but we also can pick up a casual dinner – each family member can choose their own menu, we can meet up with friends, and run into people in our community that we don’t get to see on a regular basis. With the new proposal, I’m supposed to keep track of which nights we can get dinner (food trucks) and which nights we can’t? That is ridiculous. Also ridiculous is the maximum of three food trucks. As my 7-year-old son just pointed out, those three vendors will be swamped – we won’t be able to get dinner anyway. A number of local restaurants have their own food trucks – will these be allowed in addition to the three trucks as the proposal says local restaurants will also be included? There is plenty of space, and plenty of food trucks/vendors willing to give you their hard earned dollars to participate (these are local businesses too). If revenue and tourism are the city’s number one priority, how about taking the funds of the vendors and the attendees? This town caters to tourists because that is where the almighty dollar comes from. This town totally ignores the people who actually live here. This proposal is WAY off base. It feels like the people making this proposal don’t even attend the event. This is a community event that should reflect the community, not local industry.
‘No words to express gratitude’
EDITOR: We have lived in this community for 30 years. We raised our children here and have been fortunate enough to see our grandchildren raised here, too. We have extended family in Sonoma and both our children and grandchildren have been lucky to go to school with their cousins and now children who belong to their parents’ friends. All of this has made Sonoma a very special place for our family.
However, we have never felt such love, kindness and generosity as we have experienced over the last two years. When Mikey was first diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease two years ago this community rallied around him and kept him and our daughter’s family embraced and supported through his entire journey. It was overwhelming! Now he is in the middle of another journey, more extensive than the last, with the ultimate goal of putting cancer behind him once and for all. Again, the beautiful people of this community have rallied around our family and the support has fueled courage and determination in Mikey to get through this and have the opportunity to do something remarkable with his life.
Thank you Mary’s Pizza Shack, Vince Albano and the staff at all three locations in Sonoma for the wonderful event held in Mikey’s honor. Thank you to friends and family and all those that came to support this event. There are no words to express the gratitude we are feeling being on the receiving end of this kind of love and kindness.
