Editor, Index-Tribune:

Dear Landlord,

We’re wishing you a merry Christmas, and may all your days be merry and bright. Oh wait! Can this possibly be? Didn’t you just evict us? My daughter and myself (83-years-old), notifying us that we must be out in two months or the police will put us out, and our furnishings will be placed in the street. Am I missing something here? Why? You give us no reason and refuse to talk to us. Why?

Rent has always been on time. We’ve been good neighbors, followed the rules, endured with great patience and tolerance all your harangues and tantrums while resolving the devastating ills of this house. And with it all you’ve repeatedly stated how much you valued us as tenants and friends. Why? There will be no merry Christmas for us. We won’t be hanging ornaments from a Christmas tree. We’ll be praying that we may soon be free of this heartless unconscionable nightmare. Oh, and happy New Year.

Name withheld,

Sonoma
