Glass Full: A toast to ‘Chicken Jerry’

An extra large glass full this week.|

This week, we’re dedicating the entire column and an extra-large glass full to none other than Jerry Marino. That’s because there were about 50 glasses full toasting Jerry on Feb. 4 in City Council Chambers when the renowned community character was recognized by the Sonoma City Council and a room full of community members for being, in the words of Mayor Amy Harrington, “part of what makes this town great.” Several friends and family members were on hand to toast “Chicken Jerry,” whose skirmish with the city years ago over feral chickens at his car wash earned him that memorable nickname. The honor was the first of Harrington’s vision to scale back the typical mayoral proclamations and instead recognize those who make up “the fabric of Sonoma.”

“I love Jerry; he’s outrageous and fun,” Harrington said of Marino, who due to health concerns was watching the proceedings live from home. Cheers to Jerry – the fabric of Sonoma is that much stronger thanks to him.
