The Springs: A demographic poem

By Joe Hebel

The Springs they are a happenin’

And things they are a changin’

Lots of stores and happiness,

The choices are amazin!

Now, gotta love our East side,

It takes a village we all know,

But ya gotta have the West side too,

Where shoppers have to go!

With the new lights and the new path

For moms and babes to walk,

Highway 12, it is a happenin’

Though there are some that still would balk!

Plain Jane’s and La Michocan Ice Cream Store

The Lamp store down the way,

And Norm’s place, Hot Box Grill, we know,

Really paved the way!

It’s nice to have the ‘head shop’ too,

even though some had a cow,

We are Sonoma’s Mission District,

The area that sure knows how!

Church Mouse and the Fairmont

Rest comfortably side by side,

Larbre did their share too,

New Landscaping for your ride!

El Brinquito has their bbq chicken,

Don’t miss the full meal deal,

And don’t forget Republic of Thrift,

Their stuff, well it’s a steal!

We are Hispanic, we are white,

We are every color known to man,

If you need some awesome Mexican,

La Hacienda or El Molino can!

Sonoma is like our colleges,

The West is more like Berkeley,

The East side seems like Stanford,

Where things are less Bezerkley!

Some say the rats stop at Broadway,

Never venture to the East,

But the leftovers on the Westside

Are the ones they want to eat!

It’s all about the Springs these days,

I tell you it is true,

We can’t wait till you stop by,

We are waiting here for you!

Good karma pays it forward,

And we’d love it if you would too,

Golden West Glass, or the Barking Dog,

Its really up to you!

So stop by for a Happy Dog,

Get pizza yet from Mary’s!

ESaan Thai is still the bomb,

The Fruit Basket now has dairy!

We can’t wait to show you

Once we finish what we started,

Highway 12 will soon be done,

No longer broken-hearted!

Thanks to those who made 12 happen,

I think we truly know,

That people in greater Sonoma,

Are the thing that make’ it’ go!
