Many Sonoma County municipalities offer their own city-run sports programs, macrame classes, summer camps and senior daytrips to the casino – many that aren't Sonoma, that is. In our most recent online poll we asked – should the city establish its own parks and recreation department? The overwhelming response was: Yes! Here are some of the helpful comments:

No. The many, many volunteers that run our many rec leagues do a wonderful job. The city would just mess this up.

They have needed one for about FOREVER!!

Any run-of-the-mill new East Bay cookie-cutter development has at least a pool, an athletic park and a community center. We don't have two out of those three and have been around since the Bear Flag revolt. What gives?

We need one department that runs all youth sports and activities.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Sonoma is lacking in affordable options for children.

What would Sonoma add that would be different than what is already being offered by the county and other agencies?

It's the citizens of Sonoma the city officials should work for; not just the rich developers.
