One big hotel and tasting room spot?

I am a mom raising a family in Sonoma and I am voting “yes” on Measure B. I appreciate that tourism is an important part of our economy in Sonoma, and we enjoy being hosts to visitors from around the world. At the same time, the Sonoma Plaza is still an important gathering spot for our community.

My daughter has grown up feeling that the square is the center of a warm and vibrant community that she is a part of. We are in danger of losing this heart of our town and having it become one big hotel and tasting room spot. Many of us feel Measure B promotes a sensible balance between commercial concerns and the quality of life for residents here in Sonoma.

I would also like to say to the pro-hotel folks – enough with the personal attacks on Larry Barnett. This is not about him, but about community differences in how we want to steward our town. Let’s keep the debate on a little higher level.

Really Joanne? How will a 59 Room hotel change the feel of the plaza? Can you please explain? BIG HOTEL?? 59 rooms is not a BIG HOTEL? Enough of the Yes on B signs stating No on BIg Hotels! 59 Rooms is a SMALL hotel. Tasting Room? Where is this included in the hotel plan? It is called a bar! Does Sonoma not realize that perhaps we might have more diverse shops if we had more options for our guests and visitors to stay at? Perhaps the old Creamery would not have sat vacant for all these years if people that have the funds to restore and develop quality projects were welcomed by Sonoma rather than turned away. Now we have a tacky restaurant in what should be one of Sonoma’s finest spots. Of course it is personal with Larry Barnett! He is the one that got this entire thing going. How can you keep it on a higher level when the yes on B people are stealing all the no on B signs. This is certainly not high level. I live on the west side of town and my No on B sign has been stolen twice.
