Sonoma Valley High school welcomes new water fill station

Sonoma Valley High School has its first water fill station on campus, thanks to the SVHS Boosters Club. The new Elkay water dispenser is located on the north side of Pfeiffer Gym. It is the same model that has been hydrating El Verano Elementary School students for the past two years.

According to Tony Albini, who heads up facilities for the district, the goal is to eventually outfit all the district campuses with at least one dispenser, and two more stations have already been purchased for the high school by the Boosters Club. The location of the placement of the two dispensers has not yet been determined.

“I’m ecstatic to have the first of hopefully many bottle filling stations on campus,” said Principal Justin Mori. “It is a great addition to the campus for our students and staff and comes with obvious environmental benefits.”

The Boosters raised the money for the three stations, at $1,200 each plus installation, at its 2017 Crab Feed during its Fund a Need paddle raising.

The school district is so enthusiastic about the water-filling stations that Albini said it will use bond money to buy units for other campus locations over time.

“As we work on each campus’s master plan, we will include dispensers on the new drawings,” he said. “Eventually, we will trade out most of the water fountains for bottle fillers.”

Albini said his favorite part is seeing exactly how many water bottles the dispenser replace. The Elkay model tracks that data and it is illuminated on the device.
