Harvest and Halloween fun in Sonoma

From haunted houses to pumpkin patches and harvest festivals, it’s time to get your orange and black on|

The air is getting cooler, the leaves are turning and Halloween candy displays are popping up in stores all over town. There's a wide array of Halloween fun this month for all ages in and around Sonoma Valley, from the spooky to the sublime.

Patches, mazes and other county hauntings

Petaluma Pumpkin Patch and Amazing Corn Maze: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Entry to corn maze closes half hour before patch closes. Cost: $5, kids 5 and under free. 450 Stony Point Road, Petaluma. petalumapumpkinpatch.com

McClelland's Dairy Pumpkin Patch: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Activities include hay ride, haunted house, obstacle course and more at an extra charge. 6475 Bodega Avenue in Petaluma. mcclellandsdairy.com

Great Peter Pumpkin Patch: Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in October, with free activities including a corn pit, hay maze, cow milking and more. Pasta King and live music on the weekends. 621 Western Ave. in Petaluma. springhillcheese.com.

Pronzini petting zoo: This popular Pumpkin Patch in Petaluma at 3795 Adobe Road features a haunted trail, hayrides, bouncy houses and a petting zoo, as well as lots of pumpkins.

New pumpkin patch: Hanna Boys Center is hosting a pumpkin patch on the next two weekends (October 22, 23, 29, 30), on Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Center's property at 17000 Arnold Drive.

Hay structure: The Stanley Lane Pumpkin Patch in Carneros near Highway 29 is open with a pumpkin patch and a giant hay structure for kids to climb.

Corn maze: Eastside Seasonal Farm at 5834 Petaluma Hill Road on the way to Santa Rosa has a huge pick-your-own pumpkin patch and an elaborate corn maze. It is open Thursday, Friday, Sunday from noon to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday Farmer's Market: The last farmer's market of the season is Oct. 25. Children (of all ages) are invited to come in costume to participate in an informal costume parade in the Plaza at 6 p.m.

Tolay Fall Festival: Enjoy two weekends of family fun with hay rides, a giant pumpkin patch, a 'creatures' barn, straw maze and more at Tolay Lake Regional Park in Petaluma on Oct. 22 to 23. Admission is $3-$5 with $7 parking. Purchase tickets at pd2go.net/TolayFallFestival.

Blind Scream Haunted House: Ready to be terrified? Blind Scream in Rohnert Park runs every weekend through Halloween. This haunt is a 12,000-square-foot maze that includes special effects, live actors, animatronics and more that's not for the faint of heart or young children. Dates are Oct. 13 to 16, 19 to 23 and 26 to 31. Admission is $10 to $30. Purchase tickets at blindscream.com.

NorCal Fear: The Bedlam Asylum at the Petaluma Fairgrounds is similarly frightening and not for young children. Your job is to stay alive while you make your way through the asylum. Open 14 to 16, 20 to 23 and 26 to 31. Admission is $15. Purchase tickets at norcalfear.com.

Sonoma Plaza Ghost Walking Tour: Step back in time with this historic tour, learning about the Native American spirits of Mission Solano, the Sonoma Plaza, the Whipping Tree and more. Tour takes place most Friday and Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m. Cost is $28 plus tax per person. Reservations required at napaghosts.com.

Witchie Poo and the Haunted Cruise: Enjoy a Halloween variety show for the whole family at Sebastiani Theatre. Come in costume to participate in the costume parade, and for a chance to win a prize. Haunted Sonoma County: The ghosts of our region are revealed in this documentary by filmmaker Tom Wyrsch. The film shares the stories of 12 Sonoma County residents and includes a few surprises for moviegoers. The film's last showing here is Oct 11 and 13 at the Sebastiani Theatre. Rocky Horror Picture Show at Phoenix Theater: Dammit Janet, get over to the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma on Saturday, Oct. 22 to watch the screened version of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show,' with live shadowcasting by Barely Legal. Admission is $10. Purchase tickets at thephoenixtheater.com.

Live Performance of 'Rocky Horror': The 6th Street players in Santa Rosa present a live-action performance of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show.' Performances are Thursdays through Sunday from Oct. 23 to Nov. 8. Admission is $10-$26. Purchase tickets at 6thstreetplayhouse.com.

Halloween Week events

Costume Campfire: As a little Halloween treat for the kids (and adults), there will be a free Campfire (Costume) Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Sonoma Barracks Courtyard at Spain and First Street East. The event is hosted by Dave Duplantier of the California State Parks. Kids and adults are encouraged to come in costume for campfire fun with a spooky nature talk, songs, and a marshmallow roast. All ages, free of charge. NOTE DATE CORRECTION

Safe trick or treating: Sonoma Marketplace shops on West Napa Street will have their annual Halloween Festival from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31. Kids can trick or treat at the local merchants and Tim Kaine will be playing kids music in the gazebo.

Harvest Fest: St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Kenwood is hosting an all-ages Harvest Festival on Oct. 22 beginning at 2 p.m. There will be pumpkin tic-tac-toe, pumpkin bowling, the pumpkin walk, corn hole, squirt gun blast, jumpie house, M&M pick up, ring toss, fortune telling, face painting, a craft table, and bingo. The event is a fundraiser for programs at Kenwood and Dunbar schools. The cost is $10 per child, $15 per adult.

Costume Carnival: Lighthouse Christian Church at 700 Verano Ave. is having a costume carnival from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31 free game booths, free candy, free jumpy's, and more. Free admission, all are invited.

Museum Fun: Further away, the Children's Museum of Sonoma County's FunTazmagoria is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30. The festivities include a haunted maze, pumpkin carving demonstrations, a costume parade and face painting.

Costume Dance Party: For the grown-ups, Rossi's 1906 is having a Haunted Halloween party including a costume contests and dance-off on Saturday, Oct. 29. Loosely Covered and Voodoo Dolly will be performing. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Fall Festival: El Verano School and its Family Resource Center are partnering to host a fall festival for the community with live music, food, dancing, carnival games and a costume contest. On Sunday, Oct. 30 from noon to 5:30 p.m. at 18606 Riverside Drive.

Halloween Fest: Sonoma Charter School's Halloween Carnival is student run and led and open to the community. The festival is Friday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Candy Buyback: Save your children's teeth and your own waist line – Synergy Dental Group at 660 Third St. W. will 'buy back' your children's candy for $1/pound the day after treat or treating. Kids can win prizes at this popular, annual Cash-4-Candy event.
