Free public speaking camp taught by star Sonoma debaters

Students teachers are ranked #5 in nation|

Jack Greenberg and Liam Kolling grew up in Sonoma and Glen Ellen, respectively, and since starting at Sonoma Academy in 2012, they have been working hard to put Sonoma Valley on the map in national Parlimentary debate competitions. They are currently ranked among the top five in the nation in debate.

Together with star SA speech competitor Elizabeth Kolling, Liam’s younger sister, the students will offer their third annual “Stronger Speaking” camp for middle school students this summer.

The camp will be offered at Sonoma Academy, free of charge, the week of June 13 to 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public speaking camp has grown from 9 to 21 students in the past two years and even greater numbers are expected this year so they are bringing in additional Sonoma Academy debaters to help facilitate.

“It is great to see it all coming full circle,” said Kolling. “Students from our first camp are now in high school competing for their respective schools’ debate teams. Throughout the year Jack and I have seen some of our former students at local competitions. That really makes it all worth it.”

The camp is open to any middle school student. The camp focuses on improving public speaking skills and introducing students to speech and debate.
