The City of Bell, an L.A. suburb bordered by the Los Angeles River, with a population of about 36,000 and a total land area of little more than 2.5 square miles, has filled recent headlines with revelations about the outrageous salaries paid its government officials.

The Bell story, broken by the Los Angeles Times, has prompted other newspapers to probe the compensation packages of their city officials. And that leads to the predictable question: how does Sonoma compare to Bell?
