The Napa County Sheriff's Office has released a deputy's body camera footage of a Sunday night incident on a rural road off Highway 121 in Carneros that resulted in the fatal shooting of a suspect.

The 48-second video from the deputy's point of view shows that she asks the driver of a red sedan to roll down his window. The man appears not to understand and asks his passenger something, then as he rolls down the window fires one and possibly more shots.

The deputy, identified as Riley Jarecki, calls out “Shots fired! Shots fired!” and moves away from the car, then fires 15 times into the vehicle as it appears to begin to drive away.

The driver, Javier Hernandez Morales, died at the scene.

The incident took place on rural Henry Road at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.

Deputy Jarecki wasn't injured, officials said. She was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

According to the sheriff's office Facebook page, the investigation is in the early stages and is being conducted by the Napa County Major Crimes Task Force, which consists of investigators with the Napa County Sheriff's Office, Napa Police Department and the Napa County District Attorney's Office.
