Current cadet, Mathieu Sanders to speak on Nov. 19|

West Point Cadet and Sonoma native Mathieu Sanders will present at the Sonoma Valley Library, from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19. He will share his experience attending West Point, the process of getting accepted, and take questions from the audience.

Sanders was raised in Sonoma and graduated from Justin-Siena High School. He is in his second year at West Point and is the Cadet Public Relations Council representative for the 5th Congressional District. He also is a member of the West Point water polo team.

Sanders will also present the week of Thanksgiving at the Napa Rotary, and sit for interviews with the Index-Tribune and KSVY.

Sanders was nominated to West Point in 2016 by Congressman Mike Thompson.

“I am looking forward to sharing what it has been like to be within the walls of this prestigious school with members of my Sonoma community,” he said.

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year, co-educational, federal, liberal arts college located 50 miles north of New York City. It was founded in 1802 as America’s first college of engineering and today is consistently ranked among top colleges in the country.

“Whether one is interested in attending such an institution, or not, hearing, first-hand about life in one of our nation’s military academies is interesting and enlightening,” said library manager Lisa Musgrove.

The library is located at 755 W. Napa St.
