Saturday, Oct. 13

The new Art Escape exhibit, “Rise from the Ashes,” debuts on Oct. 13 and runs through Nov. 10. The free opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. Birdhouses created from the Sweet Home Sonoma creativity sessions will be on display and exchanged.

A free “Color of Emotion” interactive art performance will take place at Sonoma Garden Park at 19996 E. 7th St. Sonoma Ecology Center is presenting the performance as part of its event series focused on the anniversary of the fires. Artists Anna Senno and Olga de la Iglesia will set out water-based paints and white clothes for people to wear and paint in an emotional exploration, transforming themselves and Sonoma Garden Park into a live canvas. A second performance will take place the next day at Sugarloaf. Both free all-age events are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. At the end, a filmed conversation will be produced using the footage.

Sonoma Ecology Center is hosting free Fire Recovery Walks from 10 a.m. to noon at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park at 2605 Adobe Canyon Rd in Kenwood. Walkers will revisit places that burned in last year's fires. The walk will cover 2-3 miles; RSVP required. Tickets at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3608179.

Saturday, Oct. 14

The Glen Ellen Village Fair will honor Glen Ellen heroes with the theme of #GlenEllenStrong. The fair runs from noon until 5 p.m. with bands, booths, food and drinks, a kids alley and a big parade. Arnold Drive in Glen Ellen.

Sonoma Community Center is hosting the exhibit “Re-Collect: Recalling Sonoma One Year Later” with artists Mike Acker, Barbara Perry White and Luba Zygarewicz through Oct. 14.

Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue is hosting an open house and community breakfast “thank you event” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 630 Second St. West. Attendees can learn about fire safety, hands-on CPR, operate a fire hose, take a ride on a fire engine and more. Call 996-2102 for more information.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

SVMA is hosting an evening of poetry. Sonoma County Poet Laureate Maya Khosla and poets laureate emerita Iris Jamahl Dunkle and Katherine Hastings, along with Sonoma poet Lori Barron and Sonoma vintner Sam Coturri will read their written works inspired by the fires of 2017 and included in the From Fire, Love Rises exhibition. Free for museum members, $5 for the public.

Sunday. Nov. 4

The Sebastiani Theatre will host the premiere of the documentary “Waking Up to Wildfires” from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. Emmy-winning filmmaker Paige Bierma uses her lens to tell the stories of people most affected by wildfires. The free event will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, scientists, firefighters and others. Tickets at the door or at red.vendini.com.
