Girl stabbed at high school football game in Santa Rosa

The outbreak of violence during the Montgomery High vs. Maria Carrillo High football game was the second major fight on school campus in Santa Rosa in seven weeks.|

A fight on campus between at least three girls during a Montgomery High School football game left one of the girls with serious stab wounds Friday night, according to Santa Rosa police.

The fight broke out when the victim reportedly confronted two other juvenile females and attempted to assault them, police said.

Several others in the area joined the resulting melee, which was eventually broken up, authorities said.

It wasn’t until the girl who was stabbed was walking away that she realized she had been injured, police said.

The stabbing was the second violent altercation on a high school campus in Santa Rosa in seven weeks. It follows an Aug. 5 incident on the grounds of Maria Carrillo High School in which three young women and a teenage boy were later arrested.

The victim in Friday’s assault was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment. Her wounds were not life threatening, police said.

The football game pitted Montgomery against rival Maria Carrillo High School, but police did not say if the participants in the fight favored opposing teams or were even students at either school. Their names and ages were not released. No arrests were reported Friday or Saturday.

Detectives from the police gang unit are working with violent crimes investigators on the Friday night stabbing and are seeking witnesses.

A $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution also has been issued by the Sonoma County Alliance “Take Back Our Community” fund.
