Calling all responsible, caring adults!

Sonoma foster care officials are describing an 'urgent need' for emergency foster parents and families 'to open their homes to local foster children and give them a place they can feel safe, wanted and loved.'

If you'd like to find out if becoming a foster parent is right for you and your family, a one-hour discussion is taking place Monday, July 30 from 6 to 7 p.m. at 2255 Challenger Way, Suite 100 in Santa Rosa.

The event, 'Explore Foster Parenting,' will feature feedback from experienced foster parents and local foster care agencies, including TLC Child and Family Services, Alternative Family Services, the Sonoma County Human Services Department and Lilliput Families.

Attendees will learn about the different types of foster parents, so they can choose what fits best. Whether it's providing a temporary home as an emergency foster parent or foster parent; fostering a child with the potential of adoption; or renting a room and acting as a mentor to an older foster youth going to school or working.

Explore Foster Parenting events are offered monthly through the year. Future dates are Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 29, Nov. 26 and Dec. 1. Reserve a place by calling 565-4274. Visit sonomafostercare.org for more about becoming a foster parent and the foster care agencies serving Sonoma County children.
