City of Sonoma seeks to fill commissions

Two key city commissions are still looking for members|

The City of Sonoma is looking for volunteers for two of its commissions.

There is currently an opening for an Alternate Member for the Cultural & Fine Arts Commission, and a Youth Member for the Community Services & Environment Commission.

The role of the Cultural & Fine Arts Commission is to develop and establish a balanced arts and cultural program for the City.

Each year the commission selects the “Treasure Artist of the Year” and sponsors the “Student Creative Arts Awards” program providing cash awards to deserving students.

Alternate Members attend all meetings of the Commission, and if one or more of the regular members cannot participate, the Alternate participates as a regular member.

To be eligible, individuals must be a qualified elector of the City of Sonoma. Term of office is two years to coincide with the Council elections. This position will be a pro-rated term to Jan. 31, 2019. The selected candidate can apply for an additional term in the fall.

The Community Services & Environment Commission advises the City Council on matters related to the preservation and enhancement of parks, recreational facilities, open space and the natural environment under the jurisdiction of the City.

Youth Members are non-voting members of the Commission. To be eligible, individuals must be 14 to 18 years old. They also must be a resident of the City or the greater Sonoma Valley, as defined by the Council Commission and Committee Appointment Policy. The term is for one year.

Applications can be submitted electronically through the City’s CivicWeb Portal. You can access the application by clicking on the Meetings tile and then the appropriate commission. A button will show allowing the submission of applications. Paper applications are also accepted and are available on the City’s website, the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, No. 1 The Plaza, or by emailing cityhall@sonomacity.org.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday June 8. For more information, contact the City Clerk at 938-3681, or by email at cityhall@sonomacity.org.
