Sonoma police news: Suspect held on $25,000 bail and more

Suspect held on $25,000 bail and more|

Friday the 13th turned out to be an unlucky day for a 31-year-old Sonoma man as he was caught riding a stolen bicycle and received a chauffeured ride to the county jail.

On Friday, April 13, deputies were called to the Haven, a homeless shelter across the parking lot from police department, to take a report of a stolen bike. One of the people at the shelter had his $2,500 bicycle stolen.

While one deputy was taking the report, a second deputy decided to go out and see if he could find the purloined bike.

As he was waiting to pull out of the driveway at the police station, a man on a bicycle pedaled across in front of the deputy. It was the bicycle the deputy was trying to find.

The deputy contacted the bicyclist, Morgan A. Plumere, 31, of Sonoma, and arrested him on charges of felony receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and a probation violation. He's being held in county jail on $25,000 bail.

The man is on probation with a no alcohol clause, so they were going to arrest him for a probation violation. But the man thought otherwise and decided to run, which is not a good idea when one is highly intoxicated. It only took deputies about five steps to catch up with the intoxicant. So instead of just a probation violation, deputies added charges of resisting arrest and transported the 24-year-old Springs resident to jail.
