Most Sonoma Valley school district campuses are beginning state standardized testing this week or next.
Each spring, students in third through 12th grades participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
This year, your child will take the following tests:
Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment (SBA) in English language arts/literacy
Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment (SBA) in mathematics
The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are online tests that measure what a student knows and is able to do. The tests include different types of questions that allow students to interact with the test questions. Results help identify gaps in knowledge or skills early on.
A few reminders to students: Students are encouraged to, first of all, get plenty of rest, stay hydrated and eat a good “brain food” breakfast. Also, middle and high school students should arrive to school with their Chromebooks charged and ready to go. For parts of the testing which require listening skills, students are encouraged to bring their own headphones to use during testing time only.
California is in the process of implementing the California Next Generation Science Standards.
As part of that implementation, students in eighth grade this year will try out a new test called the California Science Test, or CAST.
