Sonoma student hosts STEAM conference

Sonoma Valley High School student Trinity McGuinness is all about female empowerment.|

For her senior project, Sonoma Valley High School student Trinity McGuinness is focusing on female empowerment. She is organizing a conference where five women, each from a different STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) field, will come together discuss their personal achievements and experiences in “breaking the glass ceiling,” as well as any advice they have for the female generation of the future.

The women speaking are Kirin Jameson from Achaogen (science), Hilary Gadda from Women in the Channel (technology), Shari Kamimori of 3D Virtual Design Tech (engineering), mixed media painter Alex Cole (art) and teacher Sarah DeSmet (math).

The panel discussion will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 23, in the Little Theatre at Sonoma Valley High School. The event is open to everyone, and there will be a donation box with the proceeds going to the SVHS Speech and Debate team.

McGuinness is partnering with both the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation and G3 female-empowerment conferences to put on the event. Contact funnytrinny@gmail.com.
