Did the CHP ever make an arrest after a person of interest was identified in the Dec. 3 fatal Kenwood hit-and-run?

CHP officers never arrested the suspect, but she did turn herself in to Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies a day after a warrant was issued for her arrest Dec. 26.

Iva Vivian Rose, 52, of Boyes Hot Springs is suspected of striking and killing a 51-year-old San Joaquin County man as he walked down Highway 12 after midnight Dec. 3.

Rose now faces a felony hit-and-run charge in Sonoma County Superior Court. She was released through pretrial services and did not have to post bail, said Public Defender Kathleen Pozzi, whose office is representing Rose.

Rose pleaded not guilty, saying she thought she had struck a fallen tree branch while driving near the Kunde Winery with her son, Pozzi said. Rose has made four court appearances since her arrest.

Theodore Richard Erikson II of Acampo was found on the side of the road near Libby Avenue around 12:10 a.m. Shortly before the collision, dispatchers received a 911 call about a man walking in the eastbound lane possibly trying to hitchhike.

Two bystanders were performing CPR on Erikson when Kenwood firefighters arrived but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP investigators found broken glass from a windshield and windshield wipers scattered across the two-lane highway.

The next day, the CHP received a tip about a damaged 2001 Lincoln Continental off Highway 12 leading officers to Rose.

She was interviewed shortly after.

Rose, and her son in the passenger seat, had no idea that she had struck a person on the dark and windy night, Pozzi said. Rose has cooperated with CHP throughout the course of the investigation, she said.

Rose is next due in court March 26 for a settlement conference, Pozzi said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 5.
