Ed Kenny, a longtime member of the Valley of the Moon Water District board of directors, resigned from the board as of Jan. 25. The 91-year-old Temelec resident had not attended board meetings since January 2017, and is said to be in ill health.

His resignation created a vacancy on the five-member board, and at the Feb. 6 meeting the vacancy was declared, the first step in the process of naming a replacement.

The board also elected Jon Foreman as president, to replace out-going board president Ronald Prushko, and Chris Petlock was elevated from deputy to board secretary.

In announcing the vacancy, the board also passed a resolution “expressing appreciation for services rendered by outgoing director” Kenny, noting that he had served on the board for over 20 years, from December 1996 until last month, and had served as president and vice president as well as director on the board during that time.

The irascible, sometimes “politically incorrect” director last ran for the board in 2016, and was re-elected without opposition. He ran for Board of Supervisors in 2002, and has been active in veterans activities.

The vacancy has been reported to the County of Sonoma, and a notice will be published on the Valley of the Moon Water District website, vomwd.com, on Feb. 13.

Persons interested in being considered for the appointment to fill out the last two years of the four-year term must be registered to vote and live within the district. They may obtain an application at the district office, 19039 Bay Street, Sonoma (El Verano), or email the board secretary at cpetlock@womwd.com.

Applications should be received no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, and an appointment is expected to be made at the March 6 meeting of the Valley of the Moon Water District board of directors.
