Former Sonoma Valley School Superintendent Louann Carlomagno has been named superintendent for the Hillsborough School District in Hillsborough.

Carlomagno has been the interim superintendent in Hillsborough since the first of July. Hillsborough has three elementary schools and a middle school and about 1,500 students.

In a release, Lynne Esselstein, president of the Hillsborough School district board, said, “Extensive due diligence interviews and listening sessions conducted by our Ad Hoc Committee confirmed that there was overwhelming support from teachers, District staff, families and the wider Hillsborough community for Ms. Carlomagno and an unmistakable and explicit desire that the District retain her as our permanent superintendent. This, in combination with her exceptional educational and professional background, supported the Board’s conclusion that we would not be well-served by a full search since we already had the best candidate for the job.

“We are delighted that she has found her work in Hillsborough to be professionally and personally rewarding and is willing to take on the role,” she continued.

Carlomagno was a Sonoma Valley employee for 26 years as a teacher, vice principal, principal, director of curriculum and instruction. She was superintendent from 2010 until June 2017.
