A gunman shot and seriously wounded two men Wednesday morning in Napa in separate incidents, including one at a Starbucks, before being arrested by police.

The suspect, Nicholas Zazzarino, 28, was armed with a 9mm gun when he was detained by Napa police around 10 a.m. on Baywood Lane, said Capt. Pat Manzer.

The first incident occurred around 8:20 a.m., when Napa police, Napa County sheriff's deputies and the CHP responded to a shooting in the parking lot outside Starbucks at 1200 Lincoln Ave. and found a 23-year-old man with gunshot wounds in his abdomen.

He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Witnesses provided information about the suspect and his car, and while officers were continuing their investigation, reports just before 10 a.m. came of a second shooting in the 3300 block of MacBeth Street.

Officers found a 66-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police later learned the 66-year-old man had been in his car when he saw the suspect near a neighbor's fence and got into a verbal exchange. Police said Zazzarino shot the man and fled.

Soon after officers had arrived at that scene, a citizen's 911 call reported a man had entered his residence in the 3200 block of Baywood Lane, which is where Zazzarino was apprehended without incident.

The second shooting and the home break-in appear to be random, Manzer said.

Napa High School and the Napa Valley Unified School District offices were placed on lockdown during the incident.

Both victims underwent emergency surgery for their wounds and remain in serious condition, Manzer said.

Zazzarino was booked in Napa County Jail on two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury.
