Thanksgiving-break camps for Sonoma kids

Three options to amuse them while you cook|

Need some extra time to finish up cooking for the big day? Or just to get the kids out of the house over Thanksgiving break? There are three local camps for kids next week to do just that.

Sonoma Ecology Center is offering a day camp on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The camp will be held at Jack London State Historic Park this year as Sugarloaf is closed due to the wildfires. SEC education staff will lead students in a day of fun, learning and outdoor activity. Based on its summer Creek Camp, they plan on having a nature hike and learning about the creatures of the park. They will end the day with s’mores and hot chocolate.

“Base camp” will be at the museum. Drop-off will be at 9 a.m. and pick-up at 3 p.m. The cost is $35, or $25 for SEC members, park pass-holders or for a second child from the same family. It’s for ages 7 to 12.

Tickets need to be reserved in advance atbrownpapertickets.com/event/3096383.

Art Escape Sonoma is also offering a Fall Art Camp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 20 and Nov. 21. Students ages 7 and up can explore new creative activities. Featured will be Native American-inspired art, stories and music. Artescapesonoma.com.

Sports-loving kids will enjoy the Thanksgiving-break basketball camp put on by the National Academy of Athletics. They will focus on playing games, building teamwork and making friends as well as working on skills like shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, rebounding and team concepts for beginners to more experienced players. The camp is open Nov. 20, 21 and 22 at the Presentation School. Register at bit.ly/2m1y431

The clubhouse at Maxwell Park will be open for its members on Monday and Tuesday next week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate school closures for the holiday week. It will be closed Nov. 22 to 24.
