Springs group eyes wildfire recovery

Caitlin Cornwall to address future|

The Springs Community Alliance will feature a presentation by Caitlin Cornwall, representing Sustainable Sonoma, who will address the crisis in the community caused by the recent disastrous wildfires.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at La Luz Center, 17560 Greger St.

This is a crisis that powerfully affects all aspects of the community so a proper response and a meaningful recovery require engagement from all sectors of the community. The presentation will also address the ecological aspect of the fires including the history of frequent fires in the area, the future of increasing wildfire risk in a changing climate, and the many benefits that would be realized from actively managing the vegetation in the hills to reduce fire risk.

Bill Kuntz, public information officer from the Small Business Administration will also be speaking about the resources his agency provides including federal disaster loans from businesses of all sizes, private nonprofits, homeowners and renters.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone with an interest in the Springs is welcome to attend and weigh in on issues that matter to them. Translation services will provided

SCA’s mission is to serve as a hub of communication and information affecting the interests and well-being of all people who live in, serve, or conduct business within the “Springs” neighborhoods of El Verano, Boyes Hot Springs, Fetters Hot Springs and Agua Caliente.

The goals of the alliance include economic development; environmental safety, beauty and preservation; traffic and roadway issues; health; community outreach and hospitality.

Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at La Luz from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
