Prestwood Elementary announces Students of the Year

Tessa Gude and Austin Hughes honored for 2017-2018|

Fifth grader Tessa Gude is an exceptional student for many reasons, according to the staff at Prestwood Elementary, who selected Tessa as one of the school’s two Students of the Year.

According to Prestwood staff, Tessa continuously shows up at school with a smile on her face and a can-do attitude. She does not allow difficulties to block or stop her in any fashion. When schoolwork or social negotiations prove difficult, she slowly and methodically considers the issue and proceeds the best she can utilizing all possible resources.

Tessa befriends all children and includes children that other students might exclude.

She has participated in many extracurricular activities, including Prestwood Student Leadership, Poetry Out Loud and spirit days.

“Tessa makes the most of every day at Prestwood,” said Principal Jason Sutter. “I know she will continue to do so in her academic future.”

Fifth grader Austin Hughes is Prestwood’s other Student of the Year.

Austin’s fifth grader teacher said that it has been a pleasure to have Austin in her class.

Austin is described as a hard-working, conscientious and responsible student who excels academically, takes learning seriously and with a keen sense of humor. Austin is also kind and caring to those around him. He enjoys helping others, including his classmates.

Austin is aware of his surroundings and naturally responds with a caring attitude. He is accountable for his actions and takes responsibility with integrity. These attributes are apparent in his strong friendships and relationships with both the kids and adults, including his teachers.

This is the first in a series of profiles of the Students of the Year chosen at each Sonoma Valley campus.
