Projected Friday evening winds concern firefighters

The winds should pick up tonight and subside on Saturday morning.|

A Wind Advisory has been issued for the North Bay Mountains from 11 p.m. tonight to 5 p.m. Saturday.

North to northeast winds will increase late this evening peaking overnight into early Saturday morning. Winds will be strongest over the highest elevations with sustained winds at least 35 mph and gusting to at least 50 mph. Winds will then taper down with decreasing height where sustained winds are expected from 20 to 30 mph gusting to 30 to 40 mph.

Outside of the advisory areas weaker but still breezy to occasionally gusty winds can be expected, with the North and East Bay Valleys to see winds around 10 to 20 mph.

The winds will begin to subside late Saturday morning, remaining breezy to occasionally gusty until the mid to late afternoon. These dry, gusty offshore winds will bring critical fire weather conditions to these areas.
