College counseling: The Boys and Girls Club is hosting college workshops for high school students on Friday, Nov. 1 and Monday Nov. 11 from 2 to 5. They're also hosting financial aid workshops on Thursday, Oct. 24 and Thursday Nov. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. All workshops are held at the BGC Maxwell Village location.

Teen job: Adele Harrison is looking for juniors and seniors to tutor after school. The pay is $12/hour. Apply in the SVHS College & Career Center or in the offices at Adele.

Bike repair: Teen Services Sonoma can repair your bike using new or used parts in order to fit your budget. They also sell parts as well as bikes. Check out Operation Bicycle in the Springs. 207 Nino Marco Square.

Undocumented students: SRJC is hosting its fifth annual Fulfilling the Dream conference on Friday, Oct. 11. This conference is aimed at supporting undocumented high school students and current college students with resources, knowledge and advocacy. Students, parents and allies welcome. Great schools: Thirty California schools were among 362 schools across the country honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools in 2019 but none in Sonoma or Napa counties.

Justin-Siena news: Applications for Justin-Siena High School opened on Oct. 1 and the school has released a new video, 'A Tour of Justin-Siena' made by Jonas Gonzales '20. Middle schoolers can sign up for the 'Brave for a Day' shadowing program at justin-siena.org/admissions/visiting.

High school fair: All Sonoma middle school students are invited to a High School Admissions Fair from 6 to 8 p.m on Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Presentation School activity center at 20872 Broadway. In attendance will be the Athenian School, Branson, Brentwood College School, Cardinal Newman, Cate School, Justin Siena, Kolbe Academy Trinity Prep, Quest Forward Academy, Marin Academy, The Marin School, St. Vincent De Paul, San Domenico, Santa Catalina School, Sonoma Academy, SVHS, Stevenson and Woodside Priory. presentationschool.com.

Grants: The Association of American Educators Foundation offers a Teacher Scholarships and Classroom Grants program for all K-12 educators. Teachers can receive $500 for everything from professional development workshops, conferences and online training to classroom project materials. aaeteachers.org/awards. The deadline is midnight tonight, Oct. 1.

Vape detectors: A new vape detector technology will soon be installed in restrooms at a middle school in Redwood City. The Redwood School District Board of trustees last week approved the pilot project. The Flysense detectors detect vaping, smoke, and loud noises caused by bullying and fighting. They then send a text message to the appropriate supervising adult. The total cost for eight bathrooms is $22,000.

ArtEscape: Kids are invited to learn how to make a traditional altar for Dia de los Muertos on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Art Escape. The workshop, led by Bay Area Artist Ernesto Hernandez-Olmos is free, with a $5 donation requested. Register online as seats are limited.

Walk to school: Schools across Sonoma County will be celebrating International Walk to School Day and Walk to School Month from 7 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, doing their part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, traffic congestion and improve community health and safety.
