Sonoma students start the day with movement

Weather permitting, Sassarini Elementary School students begin every day with 15 minutes of group exercise and learning, set to music.

The school’s innovative My School in Motion fitness program began as a pilot last year and has been warmly adopted by new principal Andrew Ryan. My School In Motion is a nonprofit with the mission of providing students with an early positive physical activity experience, while educating them in the areas of nutrition, fitness and wellness and empowering them to make smart choices today and in the future.

“Sassarini In Motion provides our community, students, parents and staff alike, the opportunity to come together and warm up our bodies and minds and prepare for the day,” says Ryan. “We also use this time to make any school announcements for the day and recognize students who exemplify our school expectations of Safe, Respectful and Responsible.”

The program is run by Sassarini fifth grade teacher Ally Oxenhandler.
