Two brush fires in hills above Glen Ellen

Two brush fires, possibly sparked by a power line, burned in the hills above Glen Ellen Tuesday, according to a Sonoma Valley fire official.

The fires were along the 4300 block of Warm Springs Road near Wolf Run, Battalion Chief Spencer Andreis said Wednesday.

Firefighters were called about 3 p.m. to Warm Springs Road, which connects Glen Ellen to Bennett Valley in east Santa Rosa. They expected to find one fire but spotted a second column of smoke as they got closer. The larger fire was about 2½-acres and the second fire was about a half-mile away and burned less than an acre.

The flames had moved into thick brush and trees and firefighters worked in the area until 8 p.m., making sure they'd put out hot spots in the dense vegetation.

There are homes in the area but none were directly threatened, Andreis said.

Cal Fire investigators are looking into the cause, but firefighters found a downed power line at the site of the larger fire, Andreis said.

Nine fire engines responded, from Cal Fire, Sonoma Valley and Kenwood. Cal Fire also sent aircraft, a bulldozer and two hand crews to cut up the brush.
