DA to issue scam alerts

Residents can sign up to receive email alerts|

The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office has started a new service to help to the community avoid scams through mail, phone calls and email.

The public can sign up to receive Consumer Alerts issued by the Environmental Consumer Law Division of the District Attorney’s Office through an email subscription. These alerts will inform citizens of the latest scams being reported in Sonoma County and throughout the state.

District Attorney Jill Ravitch said “In addition to prosecuting the perpetrators of consumer fraud in our county, we also want to educate the public so that we can prevent the loss of private financial information and property whenever possible.”

Information is also provided on the site from the Federal Trade Commission as to how to identify potential scams.

The site can be accessed at da.sonoma-county.org/content.aspx?sid=1023&id=2585.

The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Environmental and Consumer Law Division (ECLD) enforces environmental laws and consumer protection in order protect the citizens and environment from those who would pollute the air, ground or water or degrade the natural resources, as well as from those who would engage in fraudulent, dishonest or unlawful business practices.

The division can be reached at 565-3161.
