Cops seek suspect in Overlook Trail attempted rape

Incident occurred Sunday on Norrbom Road|

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a suspect in an attempted rape Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of the Sonoma Overlook Trail.

According to a press release from Sgt. Spencer Crum, with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday, April 16, a 24-year-old woman reported that she was jogging near the area of Norrbom Road and the Sonoma Overlook Trail when a man yelled at her. As she continued her run, she was pushed from behind and fell onto the ground on the east side of Norrbom Road.

The suspect fell on top of the woman, punched her several times and attempted to rape her. The woman was able to fight off the suspect and managed to escape and call for help.

Deputies, along with a K-9 team from the Santa Rosa Police Department, searched the area extensively on foot, while “Henry1,” the Sheriff’s helicopter, searched from the air. They were unable to locate the suspect.

Crum said the suspect was described as a white male in his 50s with a white bushy beard, wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, black sweater, black beanie and dirty jeans. The suspect was further described as homeless looking.

Sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help with this investigation. If anyone saw someone matching this description in this area to call 565-2185.

Also, the Sheriff’s Office is advising that anyone using these trails or jogging in this area take extra precaution and immediately report any suspicious people or activity.
