Repairs on Old Adobe Road to begin

Road work may result in some delay in travel, but the result should be welcomed by travelers on the road.|

Commuters who use Old Adobe Road between Sonoma and points west – Petaluma, Penngrove and beyond – will be relieved to know that the two-lane highway will be undergoing patching and repair this week, possibly beginning as soon as Tuesday.

In recent weeks Old Adobe has gained unwanted notoriety as one of the worst stretches of pavement in the region, potholed and savaged by a winter of unrelenting rain. Drivers ride the shoulder to avoid the eroded pavement; if they don’t their suspension suffers, tires can pop and inattentive drivers can be thrown for a loop.

Old Adobe is a county-maintained two-lane road that makes a 90-degree turn at Frates Road coming north from Lakeville Highway. Frates is well-maintained to the intersection; almost immediately following the road surface is badly damaged most of the way to Stage Gulch Road, State Highway 116. That road is maintained by Caltrans.

Work may result in some delays, but the result should be welcomed by travelers who use the road as a backroads alternative to Highway 101.
