Flowery fifth graders named Students of the Year for 2016-2017|

Fifth grader Dominic Contreras, son of Adolfo and Maria Contreras, has been named Student of the Year by Flowery Elementary School. According to those who nominated him, Dominic was chosend for “academic excellence, commitment to education and outstanding citizenship.”

Dominic excels in all subject areas and is described by his teachers as conscientious, respectful and a student who sets an excellent example for his peers.

“He shows enthusiasm as a learner every day in the classroom, with the quality of his work and his eagerness to participate,” according to the school.

In addition to his academic success, Dominic plays the snare drum in the band, participates in the GATE gifted program, serves as a Safe Schools Ambassador and attends the after-school program on the Flowery Campus. He has been named to the Honor Roll every trimester since the beginning of fourth grade and consistently receives the Bilingual Reader Award for achieving his reading goals in both languages. Math is his favorite subject.

Outside of school, Dominic plays soccer with the Sonoma Soccer Club.

Fifth grader Annabel Sebastiani has been named “Student of the Year” by Flowery.

Annabel is the daughter of Michael and Anne Marie Sebastiani. She was chosen because of her “outstanding academic performance, her commitment to learning and overall genuine character.”

Annabel has been at Flowery since kindergarten and she has embraced becoming bilingual, biliterate and bicultural from day one. Her fifth grade teacher describes Annabel as a leader and model when it comes to being a caring and compassionate members of the classroom community.

Annabel has been on the Honor Roll every trimester since the start of fourth grade and she has earned the Bilingual Reader Award each trimester in addition to achieving her reading goals in Spanish and English. Last year, she was the champion of the school spelling bee and went on to compete at the county level. She is in GATE and serves as a Safe Schools Ambassador.

Annabel says that her favorite subjects are math, science and reading. She would like to attend college and study to be a teacher or a photographer.
