'Protect Sonoma' seeks to stop First Street East development

Group launches new website and petition. Meeting set for Monday, Feb. 6.|

Protect Sonoma, the group opposing the so-called First Street East (FSE) Project formerly known as the Cloisters, will hold a meeting across the street from the controversial project site on Monday, Feb. 6, to discuss their campaign.

The project developer, Caymus Capital, has filed a formal application for a planned development with 32 residential units (five detached single-family homes and 27 condominiums), coffee shop, and hotel with 30 guest rooms, spa, pool, clubhouse, and café, according to City Planning Director David Goodison.

“Planning staff is preparing an initial study, which is preliminary assessment of the potential environmental impacts that may be created by the project,” said Goodison. “Once complete, the initial study will be reviewed by the Planning Commission in a public hearing,” though the date for that hearing has yet to be determined.

Defining themselves as “a group of Sonomans opposed to this project and concerned about the detrimental effect on the neighborhood and our town,” Project Sonoma is an action committee of the North of the Mission Neighborhood Association, at the web address protectsonoma.com.

Their meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 6, at the Maysonnave House, 291 First St. E.
