Martini Madness spills over in Sonoma

By the time the swizzle sticks stopped turning, it was Saddles Steakhouse which had won the “best overall” honors at the 2017 Martini Madness mixology contest.

Saddles, which also hosted the Jan. 13 event, won for its Doc MacArthur’s Elixir, barkeep Bryan Tatum’s mix of Solano vodka, pear, basil, lemon juic, agave, lime olive oil, with a key lime garnish.

Speaking of garnishes, Murphy’s Irish Pub took the prize for best garnish, with Paychauds pernod glass dazzled with rosemary and blueberry in mixologist Sade Oyedeji’s French Quarter martini.

Most creative? Congratulations to HopMonk Tavern, whose Alpine Afterglow featured orange brandy with pear, persimmon, clove, brown sugar syrup and figcello.
