Houses of the Unholy: Sonoma’s spooky Halloween abodes

Idle hands are truly the devil’s playthings for some Valley homeowners|

Many of us carve out a pumpkin, dump a candy in a bowl and declare Halloween preparations “done.”

For others, that will just not do.

There are those who really, really get into the spirit and decorate their Sonoma Valley homes (which are a long way from rundown haunted houses the rest of the year) to the skeleton teeth.

For example, Robert Wilson and his wife, E.J., have scaled back on their Halloween decorations this year - just a dozen giant spiders and five full-size skeletons (and two kitty cat skeletons) adorn their Newcomb Street house. In years past the Wilson house also had moving figurines - so this is a modest display. The family also gets into elaborate costumes every year - “Everyone’s had a shot at being Edward Scissorhands,” said Robert. This year they’ll be creepy knights.

There’s a home on East Napa Street that literally stops traffic, complete with special lighting effects and creepy music, and further up the Valley a Glen Ellen house is a ghosts’ delight. Happy Halloween!
