SVH seeks options for 4th St. W. land

The Sonoma Valley Health Care District board has scheduled a community meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27, to invite public comments on potential uses for the parcel of land located at West MacArthur Street and Fourth Street West, which is owned by the district.

The meeting will be held in the hospital’s basement conference room, at 347 Andrieux St. in Sonoma, starting at 6 p.m.

The parcel consists of approximately 4.9 acres of undeveloped land and is zoned for residential use. The site currently holds a parking lot for hospital employees, which the district plans to retain.

“The district had acquired rights to the parcel to use as a parking lot and a staging area during construction of the hospital’s new wing,” said Jane Hirsch, SVHCD board chair.

“Our understanding is that the parcel is the only remaining undivided residentially-zoned property near downtown Sonoma, and several real estate developers have expressed interest in purchasing it, but we want feedback from the community and our neighbors about how it should be used,” she said.

The Sonoma Valley Health Care District board voted in August 2016 to exercise the purchase option for the parcel, which has been leased by the hospital since 2008.
