Driver in Sonoma hit-and-run injury accident still sought

72-year-old victim suffers serious but not life-threatening injuries; police seek public's help in locating driver of suspect grey or silver sedan.|

Sonoma police are looking for a hit-and-run driver after a pedestrian was hit and seriously injured Friday afternoon while crossing Broadway at Andrieux Street.

The incident occurred at about 4 p.m.

According to a Sonoma police report, the 72-year-old pedestrian was in the crosswalk on Broadway when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim in the road being tended to by other motorists and pedestrians who witnessed the collision.

The victim was transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa by Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue.

According to Sonoma police, the victim was treated for significant, but not life-threatening injuries.

Police are looking for a vehicle described as being a grey or silver sedan with a shattered windshield, possibly a Mitsubishi Eclipse or Pontiac Grand Am, with a white male driver in his 20s. An image of the possible suspected vehicle has been released.

The police department is also asking that any business owner or resident along Broadway and/or adjoining streets that have security cameras to review their security recordings for the time frame of 3:45 to 4 p.m. for any information that might assist in the investigation.

The collision is being investigated by accident investigators from the Sonoma and Windsor police departments. Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle is asked to call the Sonoma Police Department at 996-3601.
