Sonoma fire crew sent to Loma blaze

Almost 1,800 firefighters on the line|

An engine and crew from Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue was sent Wednesday to the Loma Fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Acting Capt. Luke Loftus, engineer Bryan Carlson and firefighters Ishmail Gonzalez and Mason Lewis were sent on engine 3361.

They’re part of a strike team that includes Sonoma Valley, Occidental, Cloverdale, Goldridge and Healdsburg.

The Loma Fire started the afternoon of Sept. 26, and as of Thursday morning, had burned 3,849 acres and according to Cal Fire, it’s 22 percent contained. So far, one residence and six outbuildings have been destroyed.

There are 60 fire crews, 140 engines and almost 1,800 fire personnel fighting the blaze. There are also six air tankers, 15 helicopters and 32 dozers attached to the fire.
