The country’s third biggest wine auction, and Sonoma’s largest charity event filled recyling bins across the county this weekend and when the bottles, and donations, were totaled, the three-day Sonoma Wine Country Weekend total raised came in at or around $5.7 million.

Friday, Sept. 2 was the “Sonoma Starlight” event in Geyserville; Saturday, Sept. 3, The “Taste of Sonoma” at MacMurray Estate Vineyards in Healdsburg; and the grand finale was “Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction” at Chateau St. Jean Winery in Kenwood.

This year’s theme of “From Sonoma to Marrakesh,” resulted in lavish and colorful food, music and dance performances.

Jean Arnold Sessions, co-executive director of the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend, said “We are proud of our vintners and growers and thrilled with the generosity of our bidders,” Sessions said. “The result is that this event continues to grow year after year.”
