Limited spots still available at Sonoma preschools

Prestwood campus will soon unveil new preschool building|

Sonoma Valley preschool director Susan Langer wants parents still seeking spots for their tots to know that there are a handful of free and low-cost preschool spaces available locally.

Sonoma Valley currently has three half-day preschools that are either state-subsidized or community funded or a combination of the two. Currently preschools at both El Verano Elementary School and Prestwood Elementary School have spots open.

El Verano and Prestwood preschools offer both morning and afternoon sessions. Sassarini Elementary offers just a morning session. All campuses promote “a play-based curriculum promoting social, emotional and academic growth.”

North Bay Children’s Center runs the preschool at Prestwood Elementary, and it is in the final stages of installing a completely new building for its preschool which should be ready to welcome children within a month.

Community donations to Sonoma Valley Education Foundation currently fund one preschool classroom at Prestwood, Sassarini and El Verano schools.

“We’re almost full and happy that we are making a variety of preschool options available to families across several different campuses,” said Langer.

Families interested in a spot for their child should email Langer at slanger@sonomaschools.org.
