Victim identified in Glen Ellen horse trailer accident

Horse trailer pins man between gate and trailer, causing his death|

The Sonoma County Sheriff Croner's Office has released the name of the local man who died on Thursday, March 24, when he was pinned behind a horse trailer while opening a property gate. The 77-year-old man was identified as Jack Allen Bingham, Jr.

Bingham was driving his Dodge Ram truck and towing a large horse trailer, with two horses inside it, on a long gravel driveway on private property off of Dunbar Road, Glen Ellen.

The driver left his vehicle and apparently failed to engage it in a parking gear as he went to secure the exit gate to his pasture. When he was directly behind the trailer, it began to travel backward, trapping him between the closed gate and the trailer.

The scene was discovered by a passer-by at 1:21 p.m., by which time the man had succumbed to his injuries. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
