Trauma experts explore discipline issues at Feb. 10 talk in Sonoma

Trauma experts discuss behavior techniques|

Hanna Boys Center will revisit the topic of the adverse effects of childhood trauma with its second speaker-series program, “Can We Control Our Children?”

At 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, guest speakers Robert D. Macy and Frank Grijalva will discuss the divergent views about how to discipline children. The seminar explores the idea of shaping behaviors without the use of coercion, restraint, seclusion or isolation. The free event is planned as an interactive seminar. Parents, children and teens are welcome. Childcare is available for kids under 10.

According to Hanna officials, Macy has more than 30 years experience in the field of body-based psychological trauma interventions. He helped found the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and served on the U.S. Attorney General’s Federal Advisory Commission on Children Exposed to Violence.

Grijalva is a senior program manager for the International Trauma Center, and has been deployed to numerous violence exposures around the world as a security, logistics and behavioral specialist to help stabilize child populations in ongoing war settings, in the aftermath of natural violence exposures and other traumatic events. Reservations at hannacenter.org.
