Local teacher Krista McAtee defines transformative travel as “awakening, empowering and engaging hearts and minds of young adults for global healing through volunteer travel.” McAtee is taking a group of students to Odienya, Kenya this summer to help build a maternity ward through a partnership with the Global Citizens Network.
In an effort to raise money for their trip, the students are hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner, dance and auction on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Burlingame Hall on West Spain Street.
The evening includes fish, chicken and vegetable tacos, with beer and wine also available. Tickets are $15 to $25 a person.
McAtee’s vision is “a world in which all U.S. youth have opportunities to realize their privileges in relation to people of other parts of the world. They become citizens of a global village, aware of their power to heal hearts and engage in making a difference in the lives of others by working in solidarity for a better world.”
