Halloween performances in Sonoma

Superhero themed spooktravaganza swoops into ?Sebastiani Theatre|

What’s faster than a speeding bullet... more powerful than a locomotive... and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound?

Why, Witchie Poo, of course.

Putting the “poo” in spooky for its 35th year, the Witchie Poo Players present their annual Halloween Extravaganza stage show, “The Monster Comic Con/Super Hero Convention,” in four weekend matinees at 2 p.m., Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25, at the Sebastiani Theatre.

This year’s family-friendly program features performances by a cast of dozens of Witchie Poo Players. The all-ages showcase lineup includes the Batman Tappers and Super Ninja Turtle Hip Hoppers choreographed by Mikey Snider, the Kim Possible Kids, the Power Puff Kids, the Super Mario Team, and, of course, the Witchie Poo Players all celebrating the season with their “Halloween Medley,” truly communicating “This is Halloween,” and ultimately thrilling us with their special version of “Thriller.”

The Magic Man extraordinaire, Roger Rhoten, will also grace the stage with his aura of magical feats. Amee Alioto once again presents a blacklight singing and dance act performed by the Witchie Poo Players. Jake and Elwood, the Cruise Brothers (Bob Gossett and Andrew Spear), are ever present in the festivities, too, along with Count Flatula (Spencer Rank) and his feisty sidekick Laughlan.

Pre-show entertainment is by Halloween Town’s house band – which includes super monster percussionist Rod Leeburg (aka “Animal”) and vocalist/pianist Cat Austin – who will rock the house before the curtain rises. And remember, if you are dressed in costume, you can participate in the intermission costume parade on the Sebastiani Theatre stage and have a chance to draw for prizes.

Advance general seating tickets are available in Sonoma at Readers’ Books, at the Sebastiani Theatre or by calling 996-9756. Adults are $11; seniors, 62 and better, and children, 12 and under, are $9.

This year for the first time, Witchie Poo is offering “super seats for super heroes” – reserved seating in the front four rows of each show for $20.

Funds from these tickets will be used for scholarships and children’s performing arts programs. – Lorna Sheridan
